it's not as though these types of stories haven't been done. Miracleman, The Authority, Toyo Harada, even Dr Doom. the writers always problematize the super-fixing of society's ills, otherwise it's not much of a story.
what i love about this theory is: since light bends to make it *look* like space extends outwards indefinitely, the only way to be truly sure one way or the other is to DRILL THROUGH THE CENTER OF THE EARTH
great write-up of an incredible comic, one that, to me, seems almost superhumanly accomplished. i remember thinking of the first volume, "i can't believe somebody could MAKE this!"
