Decentralized social media has always been such a nothingburger of a fix for moderation.

Either being on a less popular server/instance/whatever that allows Unapproved Content (eg marginalized ppl existing) wildly limits reach (you can post, but nobody will see it).

There's no flawless solution.

But even if it doesn't totally end your reliance on other people's platforms: Making a website (on neocities or wherever) can be a really fun project! 10/10! Highly recommend doing it anyways!

And no web host will let you use your own domain name without paying, so you'll have to start also paying for hosting.

And then there's the difficulty of getting traffic. You'll have to still be active on social media to direct people to your site.

You'd be just as dependent on neocities as you are on bluesky rn though.

You could get your own domain name. Then if neocities bans porn you can switch to another host that allows it without the url changing. But that won't be free.
