Indeed. It's so unfortunate that the country chooses stagnation (and therefore, continued decline relative to other countries) rather than growth.

The reason why no new homes, factories, schools, data centers, wind farms, phone towers, solar panels, or hospitals get built or installed is not because the fine tuning of taxes or benefits is a little off. It's because people don't want anything to change around them, and politicians indulge this.

British politicians and voters would rather argue about public vs private ownership, or the ideal level of welfare benefits, than even to think about loosening the self-imposed shackles of vetocracy and regulation which prevent economic growth in this country.

Yeah, not every time, but often enough to be annoying
