No I think it’s important for official, sanctioned formats to be as simple and clear as possible. You can’t do better than “there are cards you can play and cards you can’t” on the simplicity scale.

Point-managed community formats are sweet, but community management is where that belongs.

Competitive is frequently understood as “winning matters,” which is only part of it. It’s also a rule 0 shortcut for you to find an endless supply of people to play games with under mutually agreed terms by nature of the event structure and format you all showed up for.

I frame this as goals vs dreams.

Goals are observable, measurable, and attainable. “Top 8 a Spotlight” can’t be a goal because there’s so much you’re not in charge of.

Draft 3x per week. Memorize the tricks in the set. Rank commons for each color. These are goals that can help the dream.
