Yeah, I think James Horner’s time on the TREK movies he scored really helped him capture a true sense of wonder and flight here. Pure magic. ❤️

Good thread that singles out “voice.”

Our experiences dictate everything about us… our worldviews, our desires, our fears. And if we can capture that in our writing, we will come away with one hell of a story.

Voice is the hardest thing to defend “cut” wise, but the one most worth fighting for.

You covered most of mine, including some in the thread below.

I’ll throw in one from ROS - the payoff of Luke resurrecting his X-Wing. Got me in the guts.

Also, for my money, the below from TLJ might be my favorite Yoda scene in the whole Saga. Just beautiful.

Correct. All of that is part of the build up for sure. But Vader wiping everyone out (which we shouldn’t be cheering on btw) is the cherry on top. Two people dying on a beach alone doesn’t give them that high, you know? Vader was all my friend group was talking about afterward.

I’ve said it repeatedly over the past ten years to anyone who will listen: If they don’t throw in the Vader hallway scene, which they reportedly did at pretty much the last minute, then the reception of that movie is VERY different.

Also, this remains the best visual encapsulation/super-cut of the Saga I’ve seen. And it’s in large part because of its use of that version of the theme. Pure goosebumps from start to finish.

Looove this version of the theme so much. I found it a while ago on iTunes.

So true. I’m around some youngs a lot and that movie has decidely NOT been passed through the generations. Pretty much forgotten, which is nuts, cuz it was one of those 90s films that rode the Tarantino wave into every film school dorm. I think the doc about that dude’s flame out may have killed it.

The theme song still gets me. Captures the wonder of exploration perfectly. One of my all time fave Trek themes!

Demon Hunters made bank in theaters AFTER it had been on Netflix for a bit. Not to mention the Stranger Things finale.

People are willing to go to the movies for the communal experience of watching something they love with others who share that love. Repeatedly.

But nah let’s pretend otherwise.

A shame. That Hercules game is fun. The wonderful sprite animation reminds me of the Virgin Disney games from the Genesis/SNES days.
