Maybe you can experiment with other styles? I also thought I would need to do pixel art in the beginning but ended up going the opposite way with vectorial art and it's way more up my alley!

And for anyone curious, that card changes the single line swipe mechanic to an all grid swipe, similar to 2048, hence the name

Hey I just discovered your work here and on other posts, that looks fantastic! I definitely want to see more!

Yeah it's not inherently bad to have an industry standard, and a lot of games actually take advantage of this in super clever ways to make incredible games, but some don't and it is what it is 😂

I mean it's not too bad and there's plenty of documentation out there but yeah I wish you good luck 🤞

Also want to point out that UE5 is not responsible for this, this philosophy of cutting cost as much as possible started way before that, UE5 just happens to be the convenient solution

Idk it also gives a feeling of studios losing their identities, UE5 is supposedly so good that executives decide it's best to use its built in features rather than paying a team for that. Makes total sense on the business side though...

Seriously, I thought the idea of the new input system was to be intuitive/modular and offer little friction... Was not the experience I had, especially for touchscreen interactions 😭

On a juiciness scale the UI is extremely juicy

Damn that's a bit sad tbh... I guess that's the result of the ever increasing accessibility of game dev the past years. Same thing with the low effort UE5 games, same character controller, same assets etc..

I'd say it's part of the creative process. I'm working on a game that takes inspiration from deck builders and tried to design a scoring system in my own way, ended up being almost a copy of Balatro's 😭
