There’s been a deluge of these ‘rare bird sighted’ non-stories in local rags around the country and I can’t work out why. Autumn has always been a time for rare visitors. Can they not report these sightings in a more accurate way? Even venerable publications such as the Northern Echo are guilty

Don’t have that option! The dogs sit and look at me to make me feel guilty until I take them out. Fortunately, they’re getting on a bit so the 10 mile walks have shrunk to 2 or 3!! Rain, hail or shine

This is very much my ‘manor’! As an aside this bridge predates the three more famous bridges of this design - the Tyne Bridge, Sydney Harbour and Hells Gate New York. The latter is often cited as the blueprint for the others however, I beg to differ. Hagg Bank bridge opened 6/10/1876

He’s been interviewing and recording various folk, with accents, for his channel. Last week was my turn. I had a great time regaling him with many Northumbrian words and phrases and, hopefully correctly, explaining their roots
Old English/Old Norse. He now knows about Reivers, Romans and pitmatic 😀

My nephew has taught english as a second language in Korea and Thailand. He now makes a living from his Youtube channel, again, teaching english as a second language. What he found was, learners could understand ‘standard’ english but struggled with all of the many and varied dialects & accents 1/2
