One company got to ~16% with the best current reasoning models.

Which is both impressive, but also far off from claims from the industry. And shows them where these tools are helpful, but also why they employ people who solve all these things AI cannot - as a baseline

A timely question: how (un)helpful is it to measure PRs per developer or per team? Asked @nicolefv.bsky.social just this. A grounded take:

Still think about this:

Eng team of 4 devs builds a feature over 2 months. They skip the usual bureaucratic processes of PRD, RFC. They know what they are building.

Before launch, another team pings:

"How did legal EVER sign this off??" Well, they didn't.

Project scrapped.

The more I use GenAI coding tools, the more I am convinced keeping to "traditional" software engineering practices is what works most productive here. As in 10x more productive. E.g.

- Small changes
- Test that the change works before moving on
- (unit) tests wherever you can

What happens if a company’s engineering team suddenly becomes a LOT more productive: more story points shipped, self-reported 20-50% productivity increases after using GenAI tools (that the company pays for.) No HC change.

BUT

Revenue stays FLAT despite all this

What then?
