#museum30 - why museums?

There are many reasons, but not enough character to list them all! For us, it's about connecting with our community, sharing those untold stories, fueling new discoveries, and being a space for everyone.

#museum30 - Animal

A team favourite - the runaway Shetland pony!

Escaped from the Royal Opera house, this four-legged fiend was escorted back to Bow Street Police Station after trying to make a run for it.

#museum30 - Diary

Officers would carry lots of paper documents when patrolling the areas around Bow Street. Their record of work was abit like a diary, noting down where they had been, who they spoke to and anything suspicious to follow up later.

#museum30 - Making

Another highlight from our suffragette season was our rosette workshop. Visitors were invited to make rosettes for any cause they were passionate about in the suffragette colours. It was great to see so many creative responses.

#Museum30 - heavy

Without a doubt, the heaviest item in the Museum! Our dock is firmly fixed in place under its sheer weight, and would have been heavier with the step and benches now missing.

#Museum30 - rainbow

One of my favourite Museum surprises. In one of the cells, the glass in the windows refracts a rainbow strip onto the Museum wall when the sun shines.
Only visible for a few hours early on a sunny morning while we set up for visitors. 🌈

#Museum30 - map

This map from @mpsheritage, on display in the Museum, shows the 17 beats of 'E' Division. Dating from 1932, these hand-drawn maps would be regularly updated to include new businesses and landmarks.

How many can you spot that are still around today?
