Cleveland had a FGA differential of -21 in this game yet won by 25. Since the start of 2012-2013, there have only been 12 other regular season winners with a FGA margin as bad or worse and a margin of victory of 25+ points. #nbasky

Phoenix achieved FGA and 3PA margins of +25 and +28 in this game (respectively). Since the start of 2012-2013, no regular season winner has obtained or exceeded those margins in a game. However, one loser has: Dallas, in a game against Houston on November 16, 2022. #nbasky

Victor Wembanyama currently has 25 points in eight minutes of play in tonight's game against the Lakers. I don't have the exact stats at hand, but I'm betting that's a rare occurrence... #nbasky

Since the start of 2012-2013, this is just the 9th regular season game in which a team won by 17 or less with FGM and 3PM margins at least as good as +9 and +11 (respectively). Portland did coast at the end, but the average margin of victory with those differentials is nearly 34 points. #nbasky
February 10, 2026 at 12:06 PM
One could argue that Miami underachieved slightly in winning this game by just 31 points, since the average margin of victory for regular season winners with FGM and 3PM differentials as good or better than +10 and +9 (respectively) since the start of 2012-2013 is 32.5 points. #nbasky
February 9, 2026 at 12:12 PM
Fun fact: Since 1996-1997, only 28 of 70,200 regular season winners and losers (two per game) have scored at least 120 points on no more than 36 made field goals. Orlando achieved this largely by going 35-of-43 from the free throw line. #nbasky

If Golden State hadn’t shot so poorly relative to the Lakers, they would have won this game in a blowout. Since the start of 2012-2013, this is just the fourth regular season contest in which the winning team had FGA and 3PA margins as bad or worse than -23 and -24 (respectively). #nbasky
February 8, 2026 at 12:01 PM
Minnesota generated a margin of +15 FGA primarily by having six fewer turnovers and 14 more offensive boards. This is just the 13th regular season game since the start of 2012-2013 in which the loser had turnover and offensive board margins as good or better. #nbasky
February 7, 2026 at 12:50 PM
The fact that this game was somewhat close is shocking. Since the start of the 2012-2013 NBA season, this is the only regular season contest in which the winner had FGM and 3PM differentials of +8 and +9 or better (respectively) yet won by no more than nine points. #nbasky
February 6, 2026 at 12:13 PM
Had the Bucks not pulled off an OT win over New Orleans yesterday, they would have become just the third regular season loser since the start of 2012-2013 to go at least 60.87% from the field, 44.68% from distance, and 80% from the free throw line. #nbasky
February 5, 2026 at 12:19 PM
Philadelphia had worse shooting percentages from the field yet put together an easy win by taking more overall shots (+15 FGA) and dominating in both free throw volume (+19) and efficiency (+26.19 percentage points).
February 4, 2026 at 12:09 PM
The Clippers made one more field goal than the 76ers in this game despite having 16 fewer shot attempts. In fact, Philly’s FG% differential here (-11.1 percentage points) is among the 35 worst achieved by any regular season winner since the start of 2012-2013. #nbasky

Yesterday's blowout-heavy slate of games included five A-range Four Factor Index (FFI) scores, including two A+ standouts. Here's the summary table for all 10 games. #nbasky

This wasn’t a game where the Knicks put together any wildly impressive box score differentials, they were just very good in many key areas. One example sticks out: While both teams attempted 42 threes, New York’s 3P% was 14.3 percentage points higher, resulting in a 3PM margin of +6. #nbasky
February 2, 2026 at 12:09 PM
Yesterday included several crazy blowouts, but the one that stands out most is Detroit’s 53-point demolition of the Bucks. Since the start of 2012-2013, this is just the fifth time in 16,407 regular season games that a winner made at least twice as many field goals as their opponent. Ouch. #nbasky
February 2, 2026 at 11:55 AM
In this game, Houston faced deficits in both FG% (-2.9 percentage points) and 3P% (-5.02 percentage points), as well as a huge disadvantage in FTA (-11). Only 11 of 16,397 regular season winners since the start of 2012-2013 have had margins as bad or worse in all three of these areas. #nbasky
February 1, 2026 at 1:06 PM
The Knicks route of Portland yesterday rested on New York producing more FGA (+18) via an edge in ORB (+8) and TOV (-6). New York won by so much because these shots converted to points very efficiently, resulting in the Knicks making 13 more total shots and six more threes than Portland. #nbasky

In the 16,382 regular season games since the start of 2012-2013, yesterday’s Hornets vs. Mavs game was just the second time a winner had FGA, FGM, and FTM differentials as bad or worse than -12, -5, and +3 (respectively). The key for Charlotte: exceptional volume and efficiency from deep. #nbasky
January 30, 2026 at 11:59 AM
In the 16,374 regular season games since the start of 2012-2013, this is just the 20th time a winner had a FGA differential of -17 or worse and a 3P% of 23.1% or lower. The Spurs achieved this with a modest edge in made free throws (+4) and a huge margin in overall FG% (+14.26 percentage points).
January 29, 2026 at 11:44 AM
Since the start of 2012-2013, this is just the 16th regular season NBA game (out of 16,365) in which the loser shot at least 51.2% from the field, 44.1% from three, and had a free throw attempt margin of at least +12. Of those 16 games, this one has the second worst point differential (-17). #nbasky
January 28, 2026 at 12:01 PM
Golden State had 14 more shots and 4 more three-point tries in this game, but these edges in volume were about the only thing that went right for the Warriors. Their dreadful shooting from the field was compounded by a beating at the free throw line, where Minnesota logged 12 more makes. #nbasky
January 27, 2026 at 11:44 AM
Yesterday, the Clippers became just the 30th regular season winner in 16,351 games since the start of 2012-2013 to make 15+ more shots than its opponent despite having having a field goal attempt differential of -7 or less. #nbasky
January 26, 2026 at 12:15 PM
Given how badly they lost, it is shocking how well the Kings shot from the field. In fact, since the start of 2012-2013, this is the FIRST regular season contest in which a team shot at least 52.38% from the field and 44% from three and lost by 23+ points. #nbasky
January 26, 2026 at 12:05 PM
Blowouts are often the least interesting games from a statistical point of view, but this one stands out because some of Miami’s differentials were so huge. For example, only six of 16,345 regular season winners since the start of 2012-2013 had an offensive board differential of +19 or better.
January 25, 2026 at 11:54 AM
How did the Thunder lose this game while being more efficient from the field overall and making 16 more free throws? Two things:

1. Indiana used a huge edge in offensive boards (+10) to generate 14 more shot attempts.

2. The Pacers won big in three-point volume and efficiency.
