They are sweet dogs. They tend to fast lightly while I’m away. But make up for it when I return.

It pleased God to make absolute fullness reside in him
and, by means of him, to reconcile everything in his person,

(I can imagine a medieval commentator citing the text writing in the margin:
“…omnia in ipsum”, Id est, in personam suam carnem factam)

Col 1,19
quia in ipso complácuit omnem plenitúdinem habitáre

By leave of +Daniel E Garcia, Bishop of Austin, I am giving a couple of days worth of conferences to the priests of the diocese. It’s been great to see many old friends, former students. The theme of the days is “shepherding in distracting times”.
Pray for your priests.

The intercessions for Vespers from the Common of the BVM address her as Plena Gratia, as her proper name, following the tradition that holds the Angel’s greeting was in fact a calling by name.

Universalis is great. Easy to use access to the Latin typical edition. Well thought out presentation.

bpdflores.bsky.social
Do not rob the poor, because he is poor, or crush the afflicted at the gate; for the LORD will plead their cause and despoil of life those who despoil them.

AD NONAM
LECTIO BREVIS
Prov 22, 22-23

Ps 74,19
Ne tradas béstiis ánimas confiténtes tibi
et ánimas páuperum tuórum ne obliviscáris in finem.

Do not give the soul of your dove to the beasts,
nor forget the life of your poor ones forever.

Pero el pensamiento de la Paz [de Dios] descendió y se hizo obra de paz: “El Verbo se hizo carne y habita ya entre nosotros”;
bpdflores.bsky.social
But the thought of the Peace [of God] descended and became the work of peace: “The Word became flesh and now dwells among us”;
he dwells, plainly, through faith, in our hearts, he dwells in our memory, he dwells in our thoughts, and he descends into our very imagination.

St Bernard today in the Roman Office:

Ps 50, 16-17
Quare tu enárras præcépta mea
et assúmis testaméntum meum in os tuum?
Tu vero odísti disciplínam
et proiecísti sermónes meos retrórsum.

But how can you recite my commandments
and take my covenant on your lips,
you who despise my law
and throw my words to the winds?

δράκοντε /dracónes
The Vulgate translates literally what the LXX has.
The term suggests a large serpent beast that causes wonder.
The vernaculars shy away from “dragons” because,.. well they just do.

The Gk Orthodox Psalter I have says:
Praise the Lord from the earth, ye serpents, and all deeps.

Ps 148,7
Laudáte Dóminum de terra,
dracónes et omnes abýssi,

Praise the LORD from the earth, sea creatures and all ocean depths,

Alabad al Señor en la tierra,
cetáceos y abismos del mar,

I should mention that “Emily Wild’s Encyclopedia of Faeries” is available in Spanish: “La enciclopedia de hadas de Emily Wilde” por Heather Fawcett.

XXVII Sunday: Lk 17,5-10
-On the obedience of faith, and asking “¿quién habla?” if you don’t recognize the voice on the phone.

The audio of this story is enchanting, and the written prose beautifully crafted, which is dangerous, of course, because like all enchantments, it can take you where you might not want to go.
I emerged from it unscathed.

2 Tim 1,13-14
Take as your norm the sound words that you heard from me,
in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
Guard this rich trust with the help of the Holy Spirit
that dwells within us.

2 Tim 1,13-14

They will tell of your great glory and splendor,
and recount your wonderful works. (Abbey)

Ps 145,5
Magnificéntiam glóriæ maiestátis tuæ loquéntur,
et mirabília tua enarrábunt.

[They] shall speak of your splendour and glory,
tell the tale of your wonderful works.

Alaban ellos la gloria de tu majestad,
y yo repito tus maravillas;

Lk 17, 5-10, this Sunday.
After receiving a request from the Apostles for greater faith, the Lord moves quickly to a rather strict teaching about what it means to be an obedient servant.
This obedience unto service is perhaps where our faith is most often tested.
