NOAA's hurricane hunter aircraft are operated by the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps. According to a post by the Military Officers Association of America, NOAA Corps members already missed mid-October paychecks.

NOAA's hurricane hunter aircraft are operated by the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps. According to a post by the Military Officers Association of America, NOAA Corps members already missed mid-October paychecks.

The NOAA hurricane hunter crews going without pay during the government shutdown operate two venerable P-3 Orion aircraft, nicknamed "Kermit" and "Miss Piggy." They typically fly 8-10 hour missions while cutting through the hurricane eyewall and deploying probes.
