Working through Cisco ISE installs.

Soaking in the neon glows while hanging out in the digital snow.
My reaction when the dealership tells me it will cost $11k to repair the transmission in my minivan that is barely worth $6k.

Calling a few other places to get quotes.

Installed the 24.04 LTS release of Pop!_OS on my old Acer Nitro laptop. It runs great. A little finicky with the Flatpak apps not showing icons at first (fixed after restart) but everything else, including the Nvidia drivers, worked from the start.

What was said: Do not use that configuration. It will cause more issues than it will solve. There are better ways to handle the requirement. I am emphatically telling you not to do it.

What the customer heard: Brad said we should implement this in production.

Having to be on video for calls today. Customers can tell I'm a serious engineer thanks to the Barbell Voodoo "Children of the Cornholio" Beavis and Butthead shirt I'm wearing.

I knew the workout was going to be good this morning when I walked into the gym and the coach was blasting Rage Against the Machine.

Hit the upgrade eligibility time at work and got a new MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro chip. I seriously love the space black. It's almost too pretty to put stickers on. Almost.

How I feel when someone sends me a "Hi" or "Hello" message in WebEx or Teams and nothing else.

I need a bot that automatically responds with nohello.net.

Hating the AI generated "doctors" in ads. The latest one I've seen is an obvious loop. At least the background changes from outdoors in the Fall to an office scene.

I am working on a plan for some videos. One thing I'm not sure on is drawing on screen. Anyone have a suggestion for a good telestrator app/plugin that is compatible with OBS and macOS?

Twenty years after its release as a single and "Wasteland" by 10 Years is still a great song.

Upgrading my @opnsense.org firewall from 24.7 to 25.7, using a USB drive so I could change from UFS to ZFS, could not have been easier. It only took about 15 minutes from the initial reboot to finished upgrade.

Went to start the '98 Sonoma so I could pick up a washer and dryer. The battery was dead. Jumped it, got it started, and told myself on the drive to leave it running. Immediately turned it off when I arrived at the pickup spot. Now waiting for another jump. 🤦🏼

For home services or labs: At what point do you stop self-hosting on your own server and move to paying for a cloud service like Linode?

While driving to the gym this morning, a Krispy Kreme delivery truck pulled out in front of me. I feel like that's a sign.

Does anyone have a good process for backing up Google Photos and uploading to Proton Drive? I found an article about using rclone but starting March 31, 2025 it can only download files it uploaded. I would like to keep the original creation dates.

I was tired of my glasses always sliding down when working out so I bought these silicon hooks. Five pairs for $4 on Amazon. Worked like a charm. Photo from Amazon listing.

If you haven't seen Tyler Perry's "Straw" on Netflix, I highly recommend it. It held my attention from beginning to end. Definitely did not expect that ending.

Looking forward to my first trip to NYC but wish it was for more than a day and a half. At least the meeting I have to be at is only 2 to 3 hours so that gives me more free time to explore.

I think it's lame you can't connect a Roku to a wireless network if there is no Internet access. My modem may be down but I would still like to stream media from my local @jellyfin.bsky.social server.

Four years ago, I worked a project for a customer and they sent me two laptops. The project ended six months later. I tried for almost a year to send them back but no ever one responded. Today, after 3.5 years of them sitting in a box in my office, I received a return label.

Finished up testing week at the gym. I went up 5 pounds on bench press (230) and 10 pounds on deadlift (350) but stayed the same on back squat (315). I could have got more on the squat but I wasn't hitting depth. Five pounds isn't much on bench but it's still a win.
