Maybe something like a WAR7 rank where during the 7 years that are in their WAR7 they were the N-th best player at their position... or perhaps just hitter vs pitcher.

Do you know if there's an analysis available that compares modern SP to the league total WAR. Like some percentile based metric that better adjusts for the much lower inning totals of how starters are used now.
Looking for something that shows they were like a top 5 pitcher of their era.
