I have had this exact issue. So far, Waterfox has been a surprisingly good alternative. It's a fork of firefox that removes telemetry and other bloaty features.

This is increasingly disappointing. I can help it a lot if a handhold it like a junior but these things cost as much as one. Why not employ someone instead.

I think the idea stems from this study.

The TLDR is that multi line comments seemed to help but type annotations made the completion worse.
