New paper showing a key component of the glutamate-glutamine cycle. NTT4 (SLC6A17) supplies Gln for the presynaptic production of Glu. Needed to sustain rapid ongoing excitatory synaptic transmission and has roles in memory formation and other behaviours.

New paper shows ketones regulate proteostasis. As stated in the paper, “Ketone bodies are janitors of damaged proteins, chaperoning away molecular waste so organisms can operate at peak molecular fitness.”

Madhavan et al. identify and characterize the selective regulation of protein solubility by the ketone body β-hydroxybutyrate (βHB) across a range of models. βHB exposure rescues cell-based and C. elegans models of amyloid-β proteotoxicity, and induces clearance of neurodegeneration-related proteins from aged mouse brain following exogenous ketone supplementation.

Just published a little paper about the role of L-Proline in brain metabolism. It stimulates mitochondrial metabolism but doesn't seem to do it by being metabolised (under the conditions studied). Yet another unsolved mystery in brain energy metabolism... Scratches head....

Sodium dysregulation may play a role in Alzheimer's disease with links to increased amyloid-dependent tau pathology, neurodegeneration, and cognitive impairment. Sodium channel subunits (SCN2B &3B) showed strongest correlation with hippocampal volume and cognitive function
