Just three, one of which was already going over.

Galanthus x hybridus (syn grandiflorus).. it is like elwesii but with grooved leaves from the plicatus parent, and often large flowers.

Yes Galanthus elwesii. Monstrous forms occur but more often they are recently disturbed plants / recently planted and take a while to settle down

I’d like to see more pics but plants with less indented leaves and red in the flowers may be worth thinking about as the hybrid

I had it in a snowdrop bed years ago.. I think it probably died in a dry summer. Reckon you’ll be safe.

It doesn’t seem to have recurved leaf margins, so not x valentinei. It looks quite thick leaved though so I guess a polyploid nivalis

I was telling you about nivalis ‘Green Tear’ which is similarly virescent but 1/4 the size of elwesii ‘Rosemary Burnham’

Hi James, I think that’s Galanthus elwesii x plicatus = G. hybridus (syn grandiflorus) the plicatus parentage is evident in the grooved leaves back of shot. The slightly puckered tepals suggest the plicatus parent is ssp byzantinus which like elwesii can have bleeding eyes

Thanks all for your thoughts on this. Good to hear we’re on a similar page.

Eg if the native site is built on but mitigation is to restore it elsewhere. Agree with ‘in perpetuity’!

Neglect, scrub encroachment

Thanks, that does look very interesting! I was a member of the Galanthus group, some great characters, but had to leave as they didn’t invite me to events:(

Yes I think so, that’s also a polyploid nivalis
