I’m sorry but I’ve lived in America my whole life so when I see the headline ending with “…commission votes to end setting children on fire in carseats” I expect it to be a 3-2 vote. What gives here?

Sure, but the point is that Palestinian organizations have been incentivized to embrace peace over the past 3 decades. I’m not sure that Palestinians as a whole demand violence at all times is the correct take. Terrorist orgs like Hamas rise up in response to the *failures* of the peace process.

The Palestinian Authority has been the primary Palestinian political organization for 30 years and has not committed atrocities against Israeli civilians.

Well, the protest had to do with the government’s severe underfunding of education, so if they just wait a few years maybe no one literate enough to make a sign of any size will be left.

I can only speak to part of this, as I did not attend Yale, but the shittiest lawyer in my small corner of a very small state is a Yale Law grad and it is endlessly funny to see him constantly fail on all possible levels. A real indictment of the idea of elitism.

This argument from Vance - that we’ll have more children to make up for higher juvenile mortality rates - prioritizes the act of having children over the raw number who make it to adulthood. How is having three, one of whom dies in a preventable accident, better than having two who are kept safe?

Maybe I haven’t taken enough psychedelics this morning to properly engage with the American court system, but is the judge’s argument here that the First Amendment requires libraries to maintain materials if they are racist?

I am ambivalent about pretend meat products (cooked in taco seasonings or whatever they’re passable) but there are substitutes like black bean burgers that are just good for what they are, not directly trying to mimic something they aren’t.

I’ve worked multiple jobs downtown Fairbanks for the past 15 years and have not once stepped foot inside either of the four story parking garages here - one of which abuts a 40 car parking lot, the other of which is kitty-corner to TWO parking lots.

If you don’t think being physically removed from your car, forced face first on the ground, and unnecessarily placed in handcuffs because you were a little impatient with the police is violence, I just don’t know what to tell you. I’m glad you’ve had a pleasant life, I guess.

Sadly I’ve read enough RBG opinions to know there’s no conflict in using her face as an avatar while defending cops needlessly beating on a black guy for being just the tiniest bit confrontational.

Conversely Jack’s instincts throughout the series are nearly always progressive but are hemmed in by his very conservative surroundings to the point where he believes he is deeply conservative even while saving the local commons or not whipping his men.

I read Maturin as having “aged out” of revolutionary ideals, sort of like those modern liberals who firmly believe in all social change up to their 30th birthday and cannot accept any changes afterward.

It takes a lot of liberties with the source material. Personally I really liked that about the series but if you’re going to be disappointed by lack of fealty, you may want to pass.
