I’m not sure the short means too much on it’s own, but I’m concerned with how Nintendo has been simplify the Pikmin world and toning down the weird/harsher parts of it for more mass appeal, and want that side of the series back in 5 so badly

I think it's a good choice for a smaller IP to have a more mysterious setup, kind of like they did with Emio. Makes it more likely for people to pay attention if they're not initially interested in the IP

Hopefully I wasn't too annoying regarding my thoughts on the new Pikmin short. While I think it probably doesn't mean much on its own now, I still have been a bit worried about the series going in a direction I didn't like since 4 (even though I don't hate the game despite my criticisms with it)

It's very funny to me how Nintendo tries to make the today app have more purpose by locking the version of the new short that has the Pikmin in it behind it, yet it doesn't matter since it just ends up getting posted everywhere else anyways

Meh I feel everything was consistent enough until 4 came around and messed up the timeline

But as far as the mainline games go there's still a lot more to suggest humans and other present day creatures aren't around than there is that they do. Bloom + the new short aren't really canon

since either context it is questionable why some items are in as good of condition as they are (being able to find a fully glazed donut and other sweets perfectly fine under a cave filled with water for example in 2).

Same with Hero’s Hideaway being abandoned despite the “clean” look

There has never really been a clear view of the world in 2, if you’re talking about the Spherical Atlas treasure then it was because it’s an artifact from present day, while 3’s map is how the planet had currently looked

It’s never been “confirmed” confirmed but given the shape of the continents of PNF-404 resemble Pangea Ultima (250M years in the future), the wide variety of mutated creatures overtaking abandoned human spaces, and the remnants/treasures, it’s still clearly not present day Earth or anything

It’s mostly this coming after 4 which I felt toned down a lot of the series harsher elements and world building and felt like Nintendo was trying to brand the series as more of a cute-collectathon more than anything. If 5 is solid than I’m fine with this

Though I will say, people who disliked the short because they only play Mario/Zelda and wanted it to be Galaxy/Rosalina related or something are really lame

I’m just a little worried about how Nintendo will treat the universe of the mainline games if they want to push this IP to have more widespread appeal

So it seems like Yooka-Replaylee is reviewing well, usually at least an 8/10. The main outlier being a 5/10 from IGN
