(She/whatever neopronoun you can think of),
writes for fun,
From the year that makes it easy to remember how old I am, 2000.
thinking on this more, Carol very much punishes the two of them with womanhood and then one just shrugs because being a woman isn't some grand punishment it's just like normal.

I like that Gabriel/Velvet is just like "yeah who gives a shit about being a woman for a bit, i'm a punk I'm cool with it."

So I assumed that if you used the death note you wouldn't go to any afterlife but after looking it up there is apparently no afterlife anyway so that's like my biggest hangup with the death note gone lmao.

I still wouldn't want it though, I know I'd write a lot of names.

"there's so much misogyny in romance"

"yeah like isn't it kind of fucked up how many of these books glorify rapists an-"

"WHAT EWW, NO YOU'RE THE MISOGYNIST FOR CRITICIZING ME!!!!"
November 21, 2025 at 6:12 PM
ooh! I'll have to see if they ship overseas because I'd love to get one.

love everything about this but especially the the hairstyle.

But even between these two deeply similar languages it's impossible to expect the algorithmic "this word/sentence always cleanly maps onto this word/sentence"

and the further any two languages are distanced from eachother the more ridiculous that expectation gets.
November 19, 2025 at 12:43 PM
yeah like, my mother tongue is dutch. which is deeply similar to english. to the point that people who speak only english will look at dutch writing and make memes out of how they can weirdly kind of understand it.

companies really saw this image and thought of how much money they could make if they took over the dependancy

lets gooooo! always a great milestone to hit.
November 17, 2025 at 7:45 PM
this reads like someone who decides if a show is politically good or bad based on whether they like it.

very much cherry picking arguments to get to decide you like something because it's morally good, and dislike something because it's morally bad.

I'll say "if you care about that lesser of two evils shite your best harm reduction move is to shut the fuck up" is top tier posting.
November 16, 2025 at 1:43 PM
Which is a real shame, because that's not the lesson I wanted to learn!

I don't want to be paranoid that a studio is simply keeping mum about it because everyone knows LLM use loses you sales. This sucks!!
November 15, 2025 at 5:31 PM
Also, I'd recommend the visual novel, with the original sprites because I find them charming. But if you don't feel like taking the investement, the manga is a good adaptation and being a scant 200-ish 60 pages chapters long it's still a much quicker read.
November 15, 2025 at 3:46 PM
Though fair warning, Battler starts the story pretty misogynistic himself. he says some shit that made me in the moment go "damn maybe you deserve the anguish of having your entire family murdered" lmao.
November 15, 2025 at 3:46 PM
I would, it's a great murder mystery. And really benefits from actively trying to solve it alongside the main character Battler. but it is a 200 hour investement and took me, six full months of daily reading sessions to get to the end.

Overall, it's a situation where they are present, they are important, they are queer, but also if I sold you on Umineko based on it's queerness you'd spend two hundred hours reading, thinking "okay but that's clearly not what this story is about or commenting on"
November 15, 2025 at 3:06 PM
also those three are like high up in the character appearance list. they are all three in almost every chapter of Umineko and all three of them are driving forces for the story.

It's just that there's easily 15 more characters I can also say that for. Umineko has a lot going on.
November 15, 2025 at 3:04 PM
and to clarify it's not a case where the character is said to be queer in their backstories, it is present. it's just not really interacting with his feminist commentary.
November 15, 2025 at 3:03 PM
they are. In the sense that their queerness isn't used to demean them. and they are well-written interesting characters all around.

It really just a case where in my opinion "yeah this character is queer" is kind of all that can be said about it.
November 15, 2025 at 3:03 PM
OUGH..... THE SECRETARY FUCK!!!!!!

Carol's been waiting to do this for decades lmao.
November 15, 2025 at 2:59 PM
He has much more to say about child abuse and the way women are subjugated under patriarchy than on the ways this intersects with queerness.

And there are queer characters in Umineko, but like, 3 (some would argue 5) out of nearly 40 characters.
November 15, 2025 at 2:56 PM
So like Ryukishi mostly writes straight people. and while he can do, and does a really good job of depicting how deeply terrible it is to be a woman in a patriarchal family/society in umineko. the queerness in his writing tends to sit on the edge of the work.
