I think simpler explanation is that she was good when she had to put out in volume and that her skills have atrophied.

She had a distinct voice and this excerpt reads like someone struggling and failing to find their voice again. Looks like she settled for not soundling like chatgpt.

She was really pretty a good writer a few years ago. I remember specifically thinking she stood out at the Daily Beast and was happy for her when she moved up in her career.

This excerpt is just bad, makes me sad in addition to angry at what she's done.

Its also galling because the bias is in favor of abusers and pedophiles.

Some form of bias may be inevitable, but this specific form is not some natural emergent property of large scale journalism or something. This is only teneble because NYT journalists abide and defend it even today.
