a fun fact about the DMD is that I hand-pixelled the font into a single image that weighs just 389 bytes

as in: one-third of one kilobyte.

it takes 0.00002 seconds to load at 150 Mb/s

back at my desk

the reason we didn't end up going with this despite the awesome memory numbers is the quantization of gradients were really bad

but maybe that's a settings / skill issue on our part

it's so funny, the patent process is so slow that by the time it's granted it's already out of date

which is... less than 10%

computers would buy, likely - wouldn't you if someone else was giving you the chance at a discount?

that doesn't even make sense? even assuming coordination and willingness wasn't an issue, europe barely holds any US treasuries as a percentage

if they sold them all at zero (which would crash their own holdings entirely) it would - at best - reduce the total value on earth by like, 10%

since basically everything comes from the same factory anyway, almost all retail markup is just a scared * convenience multiplier like so:

valhalla's rolling cloud shadows are so good

crazy how much atmosphere you can pile on just by pockets of light and dark constantly moving across the surfaces

and: intelligent policy would be nice

it's 2025 and we're just now thinking that busses maybe should have winter tires on in the winter, because every time it snows (which is 7 months of the year) all the busses end up in various ditches and buildings

my last apartment was down the street from a data center and I want to finally come clean about my experiences

it was fine

it's a nameless building in the middle of the city that no one even noticed was there

I suspect that wherever this data source is from ("all photos"???) probably has a lot of scans of paper arts and other types of matting such that you end up with white pixels from archives of e.g. this:
November 24, 2025 at 7:57 PM
generally yeah - even things that we perceive as being bright are very rarely truly #ffffff white pixels

for example: neither of these technically have any white in them at all

the thing we have to remember is that colour was incredibly hard to make for most of human history, and so most of our famous paintings from antiquity just don't really have much colour in them
