As a child my family had chickens, and I’ve had a small flock of my own for a couple of years now but finding fresh warm eggs in a nest never gets old.

We only have a couple of maples close enough to the house to tap but we enjoy making the little bit of maple syrup that we can from the sap.

Went for a 7 hour hike in the woods today. Surprised one of the biggest black bears I’ve ever seen and a covey of grouse. Found chaga on a yellow birch. People make a tea from it that is purported to fight cancer.

Can’t resist a trip to the beach even in the snow. We live in a beautiful world.

It’s relaxing being out in the woods as things are waking up. You can hear the brook and a woodpecker having breakfast. People think that woodpeckers destroy trees but the trees are most likely already infested with something and that is why they are there collecting a meal. #woodpecker

Just in case you were wondering what moose droppings look like. They’re pretty much just sawdust from all the twigs and bark they’ve been eating through the winter. #moose #canadianspring

Lots to see in the woods today. Here’s a track of a white tail deer. You can see the two large hooves splayed out and marks from their dew claws, two vestigial toes that hang down on the back of their feet. #wildlife #tracks

Canadian here. Doctor’s appointment at 9:45. Discussed results, ordered tests and x-Ray. Got bloodwork and X-Ray done. Back in my car at 10:35. Cost $0. Wait times may vary with location but why would I want to be annexed by the US.

Distinctive 45 degree cut on this bush from a beaver. Castor canadensis.

Some beavers moved to the brook behind the house. Heard a barred owl today and saw some moose tracks. Maybe we’ll get some herons back if the pond gets big enough.

Today’s walk in the woods. Got to feed some chickadees.

every person involved in this needs to be in prison
“One young man sobbed when a guard pushed him to the floor. He said, ‘I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a barber.’ I believed him. *** He “began to whimper,” as his head was roughly shaved, “folding his hands in prayer as his hair fell.” He “asked for his mother & cried as he was slapped again.”
