This photo came from Hank Zaletel's postcard collection and takes us to Berlin during the time of the Berlin Wall. Here we have a photo of a border guard at the East-West border which blocked the Knesebeck Bridge. The Warren through truss span was built in 1908 and used to span a canal connecting the suburbs of Zehlendorf and Teltow.

It's fall, and with that, the time of year when we see trees change their colors. Fall is the best time for photos of the foliage, especially when they are near a covered bridge. To close out the summer, I would like to feature a TYB moment. We're going back to 2009 and Winneshiek County in NE Iowa. We did some bridgehunting with some friends in the region and found some real gems. Among them, the now extant Upper Bluffton Bridge, as seen here. The bridge was a typical through truss bridge that was the product of the Wrought Iron and Bridge Company, having been built in 1878, while Jim Hammond was agent for the county and George Winship was county engineer during that time.

Also Mystery Bridge Nr. 249 Flensburg has two city parks, each one located up the hill west of the City Center (Norder & Südermarkt) and Shopping Mile (Roter Strasse). The larger of the two is Christiansen Park, which has the lion statue Idsted. The smaller of the two, Stadtpark, has this bridge, or what's left of it. This one features a similar construction like the viaduct at Kollund, north of the German-Danish border, with its root-like railings and the material of wood.

During my recent trip into the Ore Mountains east of Chemnitz, I came across a few interesting-looking bridges that deserve the readers' attention. This mystery bridge article involved two of them, located next to each other as with the streams they cross. The first candidate is perhaps the most unique of the two. It's a stone arch bridge of about 7-8 meters long and 5 meters wide.

Photo taken in 1990- public domain When we think of Hull and bridges, one of the first bridges one will most likely mention is the Humber Bridge, a suspension bridge that held the title of the world's longest when it was completed in 1981. However, that is only half the truth. Hull has an even wider selection of unique bridges that span the river that bears the city's name, many of them are over 120 years old and are still in use.

This Pic of the Week takes us back to Saxony and to the town of Kertzsch, located along the Zwickau Mulde between Glauchau and Waldenburg. This bridge was in the news recently but for the wrong reasons. It's a Parker through truss bridge with riveted/welded connections built between 1900 and 1910 and its only purpose: To carry water from a nearby treatment plant to the canal system that eventually enters Waldenburg.
