Mike Tewksberry brought this bridge up to the attention of the pontists recently. With his permission, I've posted this story and pictures for you to read about: The 'Harris' RR Bridge from the Duckbill Farm in Whipple, Ohio. Owner Larry Harris told me that this bridge was a replacement for the one that was swept away during the 1913 Flood. Completed in 1915, for the Pennsylvania Railroad, by 1976 it was abandoned by Conrail.

The Covered Bridge and Mill Race Park
The history of Mill Race Park gives this landscape a deeper resonance. The park sits at the confluence of the Flat Rock and Driftwood rivers, on land once known as “Death Valley” for its poverty, substandard housing, and chronic flooding. After the city began acquiring the area in 1963, the site underwent a long transformation that culminated in a 1990s redesign by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, who shaped a resilient floodplain park of elevated structures, concrete paths, lakes, looping drives, and an 84-foot observation tower.

Also, our 250th Mystery Bridge! In Saxony and parts of Thuringia, one will find many towns whose streams run parallel to the road. Constructed in the 18th and 19th centuries, these waterways were designed to tame the flow of water while better capturing the run-off. Many of these waterways are bridged by structures, whose sole purpose were to provide private traffic to nearby houses and businesses.

Located 75km North of the US border, the capital and largest city in Manitoba is located along the Red River of the North at the junction with the Assiniboine River. And rightfully so, one will find over 35 bridges crossing these two rivers in a city with more than 350,000 inhabitants and whose ice hockey team the Jets rival the neighbors in the South in Minnesota.
