Absolutely no shade intended, as the reason these things are popular is BECAUSE they are so believable, but with that in mind, if you ever see a social media thing like "Famous person X turns down endorsement deal for principled reason," just quickly do an online search for it. 99.9% it's fake.

People act like "anti-comedy" jokes are new things, but shaggy dog stories are basically prototypical anti-comedy jokes, and they've been around forever.
