This image of the 88% waxing moon was taken on 2025-10-03 and showcases the reason I prefer partial moons over full moons: check out Aristarchus crater shining in near total darkness on the left side!

An 88% waxing moon with a single crater shining brightly out of the darkness on the left side. Depending on the sun angle, certain prominent craters may still be illuminated while the low-lying area around it is in shadow.

Solar image from 2025-10-04 - I checked out these sunspots with my eclipse glasses, but they're better with some magnification 😎

Cygnus is a beautiful region of space, with tons of stars and rich nebulosity. With the significantly smaller FOV of my mono camera, I focused on Pelican Nebula this time around.

These sunspots are visible with the naked eye through eclipse glasses! This image was captured earlier today. Aurora activity seems fairly quiet tonight, but maybe that will change.

Picked up a shiny Ford Mach-e before the US EV rebate disappeared. Looking forward to many adventures using the power of the sun from our rooftop panels!

I always thought "common octopus" was demeaning, although their scientific name makes it seem like they have a potty mouth 🤣

It's awfully nice up there. Our big ol' rock satellite is pretty sweet too!

I captured this on 2025-09-29, but didn't get around to posting because it's been a busy couple days. Lots of sunspot activity and my phone has been buzzing quite a bit with aurora alerts!

Busy day on the sun! Lots of sunspots dotting the surface and firing some stuff at us to set off my aurora alerts.

Not all pictures are winners. This is a northern pipefish, straight on, with focus somehow on the tiny snail on top of its head. I mean, just look at those googly eyes 😂

This is Triangulum Galaxy (M33) in mono LRGB. This visually large galaxy fits perfectly in my FOV and shows a ton of detail with this setup.

When I was using my Dobsonian for visual, I could find Andromeda pretty easily, but never managed to find this one in Bortle 5. It shows up even in relatively short exposures with a camera.

This was 4h L, 3 hours each in RGB. I read something that suggested 2x L, but I haven't modified my templates yet

Yeah, having your "ground" eaten isn't ideal 😄

According to the information I've found, they don't - they do munch the sugar kelp the bryozoan is attached to though

We did some wandering to find some decent conditions on this day and ended up at the Eastern Point Lighthouse in Gloucester, MA. Such a beautiful spot and we managed to find some critters!

Yeah, I can't imagine encountering someone with a heavy Boston accent would help with these very confusing town names. "Leicester" being pronounced "Lester" is just silly.

Five years ago, I had a stereotypical New England dinner: Sam Adams and a lobstah. This particular lobstah was caught by hand by yours truly in Glostah (Gloucester, MA).

Yeah, it's a good time to have a solar filter for my telescope. There's almost always some funky spots on there.

Since it’s the #equinox, time to re-post the best #dataviz I’ve ever done: 365 pictures of the Earth from space, taken at exactly 6:00 a.m. Details on the NASA Earth Observatory: earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/52248...

They are pretty comfy, obviously super portable, and (perhaps most importantly) it is entertaining for everyone else watching you inflate it 😂. They're available everywhere, that Wayfair one was just the first one that came up.
