Just finished cruising through this banger on behalf of @usniproceedings.bsky.social. A full review will appear in a forthcoming issue.

BLUF: The author argues that the Corps' post-WWII survival took more than legislative battles. The decisive action was the Corps' performance in the Korean War.

On this episode of @cimsec.bsky.social #SeaControl, I host Dr. Elsa Kania to discuss her in-depth research of Chinese Command and Control.

To understand how the #CCP commands the #PLA, and how the #PLA command its forces, give this episode a listen! #WriteFightWin

Apparently, the only folks fighting in a war over #Taiwan are the #PRC and the #US. Taiwan is not accounted for. And the US is slinging munitions from #Japan and the #Philippines, yet neither of those MDT allies is participating in this war.

(No chainsaws will be used during #ThunderDome, and ample corpsman support and safety vehicles will be available for all participants.)

This event will enhance the physical skill, mental grit, and martial ardor of all participants, while reinvigorating greater interest in the entire spectrum of #MCMAP. I'm proud to see my team's initiative as they continue to employ new training to keep our #Marines combat ready.

The best fighter must be skilled in every form of sparring, whether they are fighting on the ground or on their feet, and whether they are unarmed or armed.
January 21, 2026 at 12:39 AM
To that end, #ThunderDome will be a tournament of champions that requires combatants to compete in every form of sparring within the #MCMAP syllabus. Fighters will fight progressively across the forms of sparring found at each belt level, with their score based on how they fared in every match.
January 21, 2026 at 12:39 AM
But focusing only on these forms of sparring neglects the preponderance of MCMAP, which includes sparring for many other scenarios. These other forms - Body Sparring, Standing Striking, Standing-to-Ground, and Integrated Skills - encompass boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and weapons integration.
January 21, 2026 at 12:37 AM
It is common for #Marine units to incorporate sparring from the #USMC's signature combatives program into unit PT or morale events. However, this is commonly limited to only two forms of #sparring resident within the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) - ground fighting and pugil sticks.
January 21, 2026 at 12:34 AM
To help my Marines get the demons out, and to compel them to compete across all forms of combatives that reside within the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, your favorite Marine comms squadron is starting a competitive sparring tournament appropriately titled #Thunderdome.

Brugge Brasserie in Indianapolis. Amazing mussels, frites, crepes, and beer. It straddled the Monon Rail Trail in Broad Ripple so you could pop right back out into one of the liveliest parts of town. Took my whole family there right after returning from Afghanistan.
