My Substack live with Sean Trende. We really covered a lot of ground — from how to make Congress more functional, whether to scrap the electoral college, why Donald Trump hasn't been more of a dealmaker, the midterms. Give it a watch and subscribe. brianrosenwald.substack.com/p/live-with-...

Today’s video looks at some under explored elements of the Jimmy Kimmel story — how Sinclair is the villain, why Trump’s thuggery isn’t likely to work, how the FCC’s licensing power only extends over broadcast television & radio (not cable and the internet), & what this means for conservative media.
What People aren't Realizing About Jimmy Kimmel
The real villain, the regulatory picture, and why Kimmel might find bigger audiences online.

My new video looks at how living in information silos in a world oriented around video clips led people to have two totally different understandings of Charlie Kirk. Also, I talk about conservative media hosts wanting to have it both ways when it comes to using incendiary rhetoric, as well as diving

Watching the reactions to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, it struck me that it sounded like hearing about people on the left and right were talking about two different people. And they both seemed to be right. So I dug into that and what it means for our politics.
brianros1.bsky.social
I wrote a short column👇 on why we should all be gutted about the assassination of Charlie Kirk, even those of us who strongly disliked him & thought he was a bad influence on our politics. It covers the perils of following the 20% on the two poles who are either happy right now

My new video lays out a strategy for Democrats on government funding that can a) win policy concessions, b) place some limits on Trump, and c) avoid an unwinnable fight that only helps Trump and Republicans. I also touch on the horrific shooting of Charlie Kirk/political violence at the top.

And also, even if you buy that students are consumers, drop the class. You get the syllabus on day 1. Don't like what's in it? Drop the class. I definitely dropped classes in college because the syllabus wasn't what I expected from the description. That happens.

The idea that an instructor can and *should* be fired for daring to teach something not explicitly mentioned in course catalog is the pinnacle of the "students as customers" idiocy that's been steadily destroying American universities for decades now.

You're taking a class, not buying a product.
jacobtlevy.bsky.social
A top 50 US university yesterday fired an instructor, a department chair, and a dean because a course made some reference to transgender people without the brief official course description in the catalog saying “trigger warning: gender.”

In conclusion, those intolerant lefty kids, cancel culture.

Political violence is bad. It usually begets more political violence.

Celebrating political violence is bad. It usually encourages more political violence, against various targets.

Campus shootings are bad. They make everyone on campus less safe.

It's bad that what I wrote here is controversial.

Goes without saying that if you're praising the person who shot Charlie Kirk there is something seriously fucking wrong with you. Political violence is never okay. I fiercely disagree w/everything Kirk believes. But you beat bad ideas with ideas, never violence.

Others may just want writing coaching more broadly, or high level feedback on a project. I've worked with thousands of authors on Made by History pieces over almost 8 years, as well as editing books and journal articles, and I bring that experience to bear when helping people with bigger projects.
