This time it’s not fatigue, but disconnection
Trying to elaborate on why I feel increasingly disconnected from tech and by tech, and why this isn't just some passing sense of fatigue.

A couple months in and I couldn’t be more pleased with the iPhone 17 Pro. Stays cool and feels great in the hand. The battery life is solid. The camera is noticeably improved in daily use.

This is the new .dmg icon? Yikes... (At first glance, I thought it was showing me an unfinished download.)

The Home app lets you update all HomePods at once. I'd love the same for all Apple TVs in the house.

I find that most people in my offline life have no idea that Messages app includes polls now. Super useful though. I’ve been using it a lot for holiday plans and people are so surprised. support.apple.com/guide/iphone...

Interesting new project to keep those EOL'd Nest Thermostats still useful. I've been struggling on which thermostats to use for a replacement so I'm going to try this first: nolongerevil.com

I hope that someday, OpenAI will allow an account to change their email address. I regret using that throwaway email address for DALL-E when I signed up 1,175 days ago not really knowing what it was.

Spotted an old style McDonald’s in Las Vegas so I went in to check. Sure enough, Wes Cook’d in there! Thanks to @cabel.panic.com for helping me appreciate the work.

Speaking of good posts, I love this takedown of tech and AI in a stadium. Well written posts on a personal blog is still my preferred format.

BMO stadium in LA added AI to everything and what they got was a worse experience for everyone
I just got back from a 24hr trip to Los Angeles to catch my favorite Portland Thorns team, watching them clinch their playoff spot in a match at BMO stadium in downtown Los Angeles. In May of 2024, I...

A rare disagree with @gruber.foo here. I’m a cognizant MacBook Pro no-adjective user because the CPU/GPU is more than enough for me. I buy over Air for
- XDR display
- Battery life
- much better speakers
- SD/HDMI ports

I’m glad to have the option without an adjective markup.

Of the five times I’ve done a trade in with Apple, the package has gotten “lost” with UPS three times. I’m starting to think that UPS staff at some level knows what a clean, unlocked iPhone looks like when packaged up and going to Elk Grove.

It’s crazy how many people are swapping their 17 Pro for the Air.

And also vice versa.

With two new models to try, it’s a “grass is always greener” kind of year.

Finishing my treadmill time and realize I’m watching an iPad, listening with AirPods, messaging on iPhone, and tracking progress with Apple Watch. Crazy how all these product lines work together for working out.

Just need an iMac 5K as a weight vest and I’d really hit the full lineup.
