📉 Negative prices are both a sign of success and a wake-up call. They show that we are producing plenty of electricity - but also that we must accelerate large flexible demands - and the largest potential i in district heating across Europe.

In that light, it’s even harder to see how nuclear could be profitable in this environment, with much higher capital costs.

The record is also a signal: consumers with flexible demand can win — from EVs and smart charging to industries and large-scale heat pumps.

✅ On one hand, it shows the success of renewables: wind and solar are pushing prices down, sometimes below zero. Great for competitiveness + electrification.

❓ On the other: who will invest in new generation capacity — whether backup plants (via capacity mechanisms) or new wind farms.

It's a free ride - as we are seeing this in projections already. This reinforces China’s role as both the world’s biggest coal consumer and the green tech leader.

But it should be connected one to one with subsidies that bring down costs and help reach the pledges with better security of supply and higher strategic economy.

- Should the 2035 pledge align with the Commission’s recommendation of a 90% cut by 2040? Then a linear assumption would give a reduction target of 72,5% in 2035. 82% in 2040 would give 68,5%. But high and both needs a lot of short term action to be implemented.

By September 2025, the EU must submit its new NDC (Nationally Determined Contribution) for 2035.

The dilemmas are clear:
- Can the EU credibly deliver its 2030 –55% target when several Member States are already struggling? I do think we can come on track with cost-effective known technologies.

A built out of onshore wind in combination with a multi - market Germany would keep a gold incentive structure. It is of course legitimate to consider low income groups. But they do not use 5.000 MWh/month....(Yes I wrote pr month).

The new "Norgespris" of 40 øre/kwh is so low, it is hard to understand. This will not bring competitiveness to Europe. This will only reduce incentives for market reform in Germany and not give the hourly price signal needed to handle fluctuations and natural constraints.
