Retired journalist, very occasional author, West Ham in the winter, Surrey in the summer. Woke all year.
Brilliant organisation and a great turnout. Almost every strike is the result of management failure. It’s time for the Scott Trust to concede they have got this horribly wrong.
What an amazing day on the picket. End of day pic. Thank you for all your support. See you tomorrow 💪

It was a fantastic turnout - and really encouraging that so many passers-by wanted to know what the strike is all about
Today is the Observer’s 233rd birthday. And the first of 4 strike days. I grew up in South Wales in the shadow of the miners’ strike. Extraordinary to be joining a picket line outside what I believed was my liberal progressive news org all these years later.

We’re so grateful for your support & ✊

So where should the cut-off point be Carol? I’m a pensioner and I don’t need a 250-quid bung from the government. Most people of my age I know don’t need it either. A pension credit threshold is the least arbitrary answer
I still don’t understand why Labour is cutting the winter fuel payments back in this stark manner

No problem at all with wealthy pensioners (I’m almost at that age now) who don’t need it not receiving it obviously

But for only those on Pension Credit to receive it .. is wrong
NEW: Tens of thousands of pensioners are expected to be driven into poverty by cuts to winter fuel payments, according to forecasts by DWP published today

The figures do not factor in the increased uptake of the pension credit benefit

I know we’re all supposed to be nice to everyone on BlueSky, but I really do think farmers should fuck off and get used to the idea they should pay tax like the rest of us

A word on the Allison Pearson free speech row, and what she describes as a ‘Kafkaesque’ threat to it. We asked her on @thenewsagents.bsky.social to discuss.
She said: ‘No. And if you get any aspect of the story wrong my lawyers will be watching.’
Gotta love a free speech warrior 🤷🏻‍♂️

Margaret Thatcher is trending on X. That’s why I’m on BlueSky.

Should we ever find ourselves in a car together you’ll understand that I’d prefer to drive.

An interesting update on the Allison Pearson tweet story that has raised the collective blood pressure of Telegraph readers to a seriously dangerous level

Allison Pearson’s ‘racist’ tweet is at centre of Telegraph’s row with police
Exclusive: Person who complained tells Guardian that columnist’s ‘Jew haters’ post was inflammatory

ITV’s coverage of England football matches is woeful. Sam Matterface and Lee Dixon are to insightful commentary what Elon Musk is to intelligent politics

I think I’ll crack open a bottle of Cava, which I much prefer to champagne
As X croaks 🐸, you will enjoy it with:
1. Champagne 🍾
2. Weed 🍃
3. Popcorn 🍿
4. Other or not at all
