It's fun to scope out the products that appear in films because unless you get clearance to use them you have to put your own original images on everything like cereal boxes, peanut butter jars, wall posters and photos, business signage, bus and subway adverts, branded t-shirts, et al.

Something as simple as changing the location to a less obvious one can really enrich a scene. Also, altering the characters involved to ones infrequently captured can make the dynamics of a scene fuller and more impactful. Breaking away from the expected adds cinematic depth.

Scripts are easier to write when you know you're directing them because some scenes cannot be separated from how they need to be shot to properly convey unfolding story elements.

Knowing that no officials in a democracy are essential. All can be replaced at any moment and the democracy continues along as though they never existed. All the damage they may have done can be undone by their replacements or by the populace. That's why uppity officials in a democracy are foolish.

While attending university, a wonderful human being named Juanita was the first to give me a job as a producer, editor, and camera operator covering a conference. She was very creative-minded and personable. She has long passed but I think of her fondly whenever I am doing anything with productions.

ICYDK: a 32-bit recorder captures the lowest lows and highest highs so short of an explosion the production sound mixer doesn't worry about clipping and instead concentrates on all the other elements of getting the best incoming sound quality. ADR is recording replacement dialogue afterward.

Can't be stressed enough: sound quality more important than visual quality. Use 32-bit recorder. Use ADR for poor dialogue quality. All the attention to picture - blocking, lighting, framing, etc. - makes it seem higher priority but give more attention to getting the best sound quality.

Obviously Los Angeles has lots of film production resources. I remember the first time visiting, arriving in the dead of night, an overturned van on fire, not a soul to be seen in the vicinity, eerily quiet - ah, fond memories. I'd move there but I don't want to devote that much of time to driving.

My painting of a denizen of the underworld - mask-like face, sides of cheeks and jaw sport a double set of giant amber insect-like mandibles with lightning crackling between their joints, long thick black and orange feelers jutting out the top sides of its head, a grayish purple and black twisting robe, and blazing neon red glowing eyes sending energy below and above its sockets. It has an ancient look of disapproval upon its face. If it leaves the underworld, it is always to return a bit later dragging something back from the mortal realm.

Cool. Accsoon SeeMo Pro, iPhone 17 Pro (for its Lidar), and Jetset Cine can be used to capture 3D camera movement data in the real world to then send over to save lots of time and effort when syncing moving-camera live footage with 3D Unreal Engine or Blender virtual environments.

Think about ways to create opportunities for your dreams. Is it going out for more auditions? Generating more diverse content for your reel? Originating your own project, however big or small, to highlight your talent? Expanding your skill set to widen the possibilities? Focus on achievable steps.

Many industries try to conceal how cutthroat they are. Show biz is, like any spectator-based industry. The nature of the beast when many fight for scarce opportunities like selling screenplays, landing roles, hired for crew, picked up for funding, etc. It affects people differently.

Helpful exercise: Pick great films, turn off the sound and watch purely for the edits - ideally on a medium or larger screen. Pay attention to the pacing and to where on the screen your eye is focused in each shot and whether and when that does or doesn't change shot-to-shot.
