TN often needs some air before it gets to that crushed violet goodness. There are hundreds of indigenous grapes there. I have not had many monos there. Baga (cherry pit), Alvarinho, Alfrocheiro (floral), Arinto (lemon), Loureiro (Sweet Tarts), and Avesso (gin). But otherwise it's been blends.

Maybe reporters should do more reporting on stock trades and investments vis a vis voting histories. Sad that we still don't know his reasoning over 20 years later. What a joke of a campaign he ran. Still bitter about that.

I get people not knowing better, but people who did all they could to avoid being drafted then turning around and beating the war drums 30 years later is especially galling. Even John Kerry, who once asked who would be the last to die for a mistake, voted for AUMF.

Bordeaux is permitting Touriga Nacional and Alvarinho now. On est arrivé!

Julie, I am surprised at how often the planning and subsequent support comes from boomers who avoided Vietnam.

Subsidies and cheaper land help keep prices down there, also. Plus they don't have wealthy oligarchs or American boomers driving up prices everywhere. The story of Portuguese wine has yet to be told. All that is good for the average consumer.

A bottle goes through a lot of cost layers to get from there to here. A $25 bottle there can be $40 here. But deals do exist.

I'm not sure they are identifying enough top end talent to begin with. The pipeline is more important than spending on 31 year olds.

Love Esporāo Branco Reserva. Dying to try the Colares stuff, but too expensive now. Bairrada/Dao is fun. VV still wines. Tons to try. Best value wine country.

This isn't the best FA class. If there is a real gripe for me, it's been the farm system.

More importantly, what are some of your current favorite Portuguese wines?

I suppose if they don't have to give up much. Salary is 20 mill, and club option for same amount for 2027.

How they got Baz:

"August 14, 2018: the Pittsburgh Pirates sent Shane Baz to the Tampa Bay Rays to complete an earlier deal made on July 31, 2018. July 31, 2018: The Pittsburgh Pirates sent a player to be named later, Tyler Glasnow and Austin Meadows to the Tampa Bay Rays for Chris Archer."

Sir, I would also offer the career arcs of Sexson and Dunn as recent comparables. How often do first basemen see careers go south like that after the age 31-32 mark, and has anybody pinpointed what generally happens here? I typed a few older names and did notice a decent percentage there as well.

It brings to mind the scene in Color Of Money where Newman says to John Turturro after losing yet another game to his intended hustling prey, Tom Cruise, "Who ya workin', kid? Me or him?"
