No doubt that seat targeting did help secure a landslide however this was much too prescriptive with more trust in CLP’s and their membership another 20 or 30 seats could have been won. Starving non target seats of resources was neither clever or productive

Just imagine continuing to pursue a deeply unpopular policy having trialed it initially in say Scotland stubbornly rolling it out across the country against widespread public opposition. The outcome of which is the fall of the Prime Minister. Now that wouldn’t be very good would it Mrs Thatcher?!
