I think part of that will be the long-time familiarity of Mac and Windows which is incredibly difficult to pull someone away from - and for good reason.
Hopefully one day we'll have our single go-to distro that solves all our problems so we can finally escape Windows 😩

I think a lot of what you've picked up on for yourself is just the lack of software support for Linux unfortunately. And I wouldn't count running anything in Wine or similar a suitable workaround for the common user.
But yeah... simply finding a suitable distro always sounds pain

However I have heard that there are more "Windows-like" Linux distros out there that are designed to specifically be simpler to use. I do wonder what they're like for a non-techy user - I've never tried one.
