📢 Introducing vike-server

Joël, Dani, and I are beyond thrilled to announce vike-server — a new Vike extension that integrates Vite with any server (Express.js, Hono, ...) and any deployment (VPS, Netlify, Vercel, Cloudflare, ...).

Glad to see Nuxt get long-term funding — for Nuxt and also for their great libraries powering a big chunk of the JS ecosystem.

Innovation is driven by hunger — curious to see whether it will fuel or mellow their drive. More stability for sure, but maybe less motivation to re-invent themselves 👀

Added use cases for +onCreatePageContext and +onCreateGlobalContext to the docs.

Vike is the only framework with low-level hooks that let you build all kinds of web architectures. E.g. DocPress (SSG powering vike.dev) couldn't be built with other frameworks.

✨ 5,000 stars on GitHub ✨

🚀 Road to 50k:
- Make Vike the quickest way to get started with full-fledged apps (powered by Vike extensions + vike.dev/new)
- Marketing first — time to spread the word! (We’ve been heads-down building Vike’s foundation — almost done!)

✨ Many HMR fixes for + files
💫 +redirects support for SSG

Roadmap:
- Finish internal refactoring and polishing
- Open Source Pricing (we're hesitating about two different designs, we'll ask for feedback soon)

No AI open source developer in sight.

AI has improved but it's hit a structural plateau — no breakthroughs.

Next AI breakthrough? Next year? 5 years? 20?

Everyone's free to guess and have a hunch, but any leader claiming certainty is most likely talking BS.

Glad to see Telefunc (telefunc.com) mentioned at the @svelte.dev conference: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dAT...

Yes — having client and server code live inside the same file is a dead end.

Hopefully Telefunc will inspire others as well.

Thank you @rich-harris.dev for the shout out!

🧩 New extensions:
vike-react-zustand (github.com/vikejs/vike-...)
vike-react-redux (github.com/vikejs/vike-...)

🏷️ [email protected] New hook +onData (vike.dev/onData) — for populating stores with data.

Huge props to Dani for implemneting vike-react-zustand 💫

Warnings are beautiful.

Vike has 183 of them ✨

For all kinds of things, ranging from small paper cuts to important performance issues.

Part of our marketing plan is also to better explain — and sell — why Vike's architecture is the future, along with some of its more unusual decisions.

😍 Very excited about the future of server-side JavaScript.

Joël and I are working on something very relevant to all this. Stay tuned.

FYI it's all powered by github.com/magne4000/un... and we aim to support basically everything that targets JS. So far we have universal-middleware adapters for all these environments: universal-middleware.dev/reference/su... and we are looking forward to add more.

👀 Big unveil next week 👀

Something Joël and I have been working on for months.

Now also talking with Netlify & Cloudflare.

The ball is rolling. Can't wait to build the server infrastructure common to many frameworks. Similarly to what Vite did with compilation.

universal-middleware (github.com/magne4000/un...) is just the beginning.

I'm psyched about a possible collaboration with Tanner — he's one of the most collaborative devS out there.

Collaborative code FTW — Open Source is nice, Collaborative Code is 🚀

@vite.dev has shown how to share infrastructure, let's double done on that.

We're chatting with @tannerlinsley.com as we speak about sharing server infrastructure.

Joël did an awesome job on universal-middleware, and we can't for it to eventually become the de facto JS server interop layer based on WinterCG and WHATWG.

After Gatsby (the previous build system) randomly died *again*, I migrated mausritter.com to use @vike.dev in a couple of hours. Much nicer api, super fast automated deploys 🙏
