Renaissance Man in Training: actor, musician, clown, poet, artist, philosopher, amateur mathematician, father…father, most importantly.
Had the chance to catch one of my favorite bluegrass outfits this weekend. The Stringfield Springers are a like a little hillbilly orchestra. 🪕💚

I'm so fascinated by the invocation of the tomboy in transphobic discourse because what they're praising isn't the freedom to be nonconforming but instead the ideal of an uppity young girl in need of taming

“Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. They teach you there's a boundary line to music. But, man, there's no boundary line to art.”

The incomparable grand-daddy of bebop, Charlie Parker. Born this day in 1920.

There’s something so beautiful
about the seamless flow
of a child’s imagination.

Reality and Fantasy move
together with no thought
for complication or fuss.

Simple. Open. Acceptance.

What was the story?
Argument?
Heartbreak?
Accident?

Why is it that decay is so compelling to the human eye?

Do we read a familiar story in the crumbling matter? Does the inexorable pattern of entropy reach out to our deeper instincts? Can we find peace in studying the contours of our shared fate?

The gates are so tantalizingly close

sometimes. If I reach slowly they’re

there. Out of the corner of my eye

whispering.

Any crack, seam, break.

Any opportunity can bring stunning beauty.

Some lines from a drive up to Burlington:

The Still Empty Branches of Early Spring

Soft curving lines of green
White puffs of mist
blanketing over the olive green mountains
The tall dark pines in the foreground
spring stately up melancholy hope
