This. Regular voters took the "nothing ever happens" mantra to heart, but also thought presidents controlled the price of eggs.
The one very very slight silver lining to all this is that people are learning quickly that yes, elections do matter when you elect fascists.

I think a lot of people thought things would basically be the same no matter who won. That view was stupid and naive but here we are.
