I've only got a few years of running for the same small group as my experience. I have a pretty good handle on the group and what they enjoy.

I very much enjoy your style. As a player. I dont think I could be that way as the one who runs the games. I like when my players win. They like when they win. I indulge in a little suffering for the PCs because in the end they will win.

I like to just give them a problem and let them come up with solutions. I dont have a set solution, I just let them plan whatever they want to do and when they hit a solution that's really funny, I let them win with it.

They seasoned the lobster with salt and pepper. Well, salt shouldn't affect a sea creature, but pepper? The pepper was the chemical they needed to melt the lobsters.
Luckily, the sea captain who dropped them off returned just in time with a cargo of pepper she was transporting.

I had a game where they were up against giant mutant lobsters. That was it. All my plan was give them the adversary, and whatever they did would work. I let them catch a smaller lobster (for science!), and they immediately decided it was time for lunch.
