What kind of thing can you install that breaks a game "even after reinstall"?.. Did the LLM tell them to install templeOS or something?

Might be interesting to look at the "Combat Extended" mod.
The increase in range and lethality of weapons combined with the addition of embrasures kinda removes the need for killboxes and instead rewards believable looking bunkers with overlapping fields of fire

"Vote with your wallet" basically never works as 98% of people will never be aware of this problem until they are hit by it personally.
It would also not mandate what games get made, but simply be a requirement to be allowed for sale, like exists for most products already.

Vsync on by default at first startup:

I would consider this the main question, are games/software a product or service.
Once this is answered we can move on to figuring out what that means for preservation/ownership/EOL policies.
But currently I don't think talking about how that might potentially work is very relevant.

Games/software are generally "sold" using a "purchase" button, or even sold as a physical data carrier.
This in my view pushes games towards being products.
Your arguments about support are fair/sound if you consider them services.
A service to me should have a clear term of access, eg: 20$ p/m

This is the core conflict that the SKG campaign is seeking to clarify, are games/software a good or a service.
AFAIK there isn't really any jurisprudence about this anywhere in the world.

Which is very sad because something like Alyx really shows the immense potential VR has for immersive first person games, even with relatively unfriendly hardware.

Very fair, I had the luck of being able to try a friends one and realising I had no issue with it.
PC VR also used to be cheaper back when I got my rift-S.
The biggest problem facing (PC)VR is probably that compared to the upfront investment there really is only a handful of good full games.

I've heard anekdotes that you can develop "VR Legs" after playing VR a bunch despite the motion sickness, and Alyx does have a bunch of mitigations to prevent motion sickness.
But I am completely unaffected by VR sickness and always have been, so I have no personal experience in that regard.
