In the 70s the trend was a 7-position system developed by Bill Leavitt.
That was/is known as “Berklee” fingerings.
And everybody swore by it…

Nowadays, those 3 concepts are around (there are a few more, BTW). Each one has its pros & cons, and it's probably a good idea to be familiar with those 3 main ones.
