"Brass with enamel ornament"

Yeah. That enamel will be worn off by January. By February it'll look like the White House East Wing.

My first thought (substituting "kids" for "friends").

Vancouver. Starts with the same letter as Venezuela so Trump got confused, Hegseth was on his pre-weekend bender, and the military has just given up.
"He wants to do WHAT? Okay. Yeah. Sure. Whatever.
Welp. Looks like we're bombing Vancouver at dawn."

Even a "curiosity" is pushing it tbh. There's an entire industry of weird looking white guys you poke in the stomach to make them say hideous, anti-social things like factory-produced Tickle Me Nazis

Um... Foley is a staunch Democrat. He was hoping the company would come to its senses.

Aww. Congrats. I heard they've been trying since 1484.

Yeah, same.
But then there's catastrophic thinking, put to good use.
"If I get this I might not be able pay this bill, and if I can't pay that I won't be able to pay this! And it'll keep going, and the next thing I know I'll be out on the streets! They'll find my body in a ditch somewhere!"

Ugh. I could not handle that. I have the ADHD tech fury really bad. 😅🤔😑
But the circling thing is my brain's goto. I've gotten stuck before. Just kept going til I finally wobbled and ran into a table. Pain can be a "wonderful" focuser.

In your head:
You, the adult, speaking to ADHD, the child, "no, put it down. I said put it down. Put your hands in your pockets and keep them there. Okay. That's it we're leaving".

Seems silly, but often it actually works. It gets you to focus on what's happening. Keeps your attention on your goal.

To really understand this, you have read the above very quickly. No spaces, no punctuation.

I'm combined but lean to the hyper side. More than once I've found myself (mostly in the kitchn), walking very quickly in a small circle as my brain tries to pick which chore to attend to first, figure how to do them all at once, if the cup of tea sitting in the other room is cold yet, and why blue.

Ive watched this vid so many times. It's the complete lack of preparedness that gets me 🤣. 2 seconds in and you can not only see how far out of depth the guy is, but also that he knows it too. By the end he's drowning in flop sweat.

Just one more answer and you could market your own "magic 8-ball".
(the original uses a 4-sided die, you could use an 8)

Don't forget her stint as Trump's press secretary in '17.

It's not the slaughter...
it's the clean up.

Well, with modern media, especially with social media's instant gratification, they have to "feed the beast" [ironically (karmatically?) the one they helped perpetuate].
The only reason they are worse than the tabloid of the 80s, is how many people treat them as legitimate journalism

This whole conversation has me chortling.

It was even a common plot trope in Film Noir (people in-the-know selling info to the press).
In stating all this I'm not defending it, just saying that there is a pretty staggering weight of history behind it.
December 15, 2025 at 5:40 PM
You'd think so, but certain kinds of media have been willing to pay people since at least the 1800s. And the more common it became, the more people lined up to sell info.

TMZ is yellow journalism to a T. The term was first used 1897.
