Here in Canada, the federal cabinet gets the final call, but screenings and nominations are generally handled by an independent apolitical council of people from the legal profession, the judiciary, and the public. It's not a politicized process at all here

In Canada, we essentially have a nonpartisan council of lawyers, judges, and the public who provide shortlists to the government for appointment. Judges are fairly strictly nonpartisan.
They're wholly independent of the government once appointed

I'm up in Canada. Ours are nominated by a judicial council and then appointed by the federal government. No elected justices here

In responding to your post I’ve reminded myself that I’m a huge fucking nerd who knows entirely too much about how these models work.
And now I’m so tempted to dig into python and test models with this prompt and massive minimum output token requirements

Tried, all it gave me was an explanation of irrational numbers and π to 100 digits.
Not surprised, though. Most decent models are pretty good at assessing their output and sending an end of message signal at the end.
(5 stars for using “daren’t” in a sentence, btw.)

That’s so wholesome and lovely.
It’s only really been as an adult that I’ve thought about the struggles and extraordinary efforts of my own parents, complicated by poverty and circumstance but never without love.
And I do weirdly miss “Everything Left In The Fridge Soup”

My theory is that this is either an Easter egg joke or it’s a result of the AI model trying to answer given the info it has and then its alignment causing it to check itself, resulting in recursively spouting nonsense, checking, and correcting with further nonsense.
