Adventure games are another genre named after a fame, but that one has just been around long enough people have forgotten about it. My problem is that people are selective about what genre titles they get upset about.

People trying to replace Metroidvania with search action don't seem to realize that all other video game genre names are also bad.

As someone who hates people trying to rebrand Metroidvanias as "search action" games, I think most of these suggested genre titles are equally clunky and inorganic.
