Anyone wanting to check whether the aurora might be visible might want to check whether a geomagnetic storm is underway. The AuroraWatch UK service at the University of Lancaster provides information on geomagnetic activity.

This image shows Comet SWAN (C/2025 R2) which was located in the southern sky after yesterday evening: the small misty object in the centre.

This is a single unreduced 15-second frame with a 135mm lens on a digital SLR camera cropped to match the picture of Comet Lemmon.

Popular astronomy: here are images of two comets from last night.

This image here shows Comet Lemmon (C/2025 A6) which was easily seen through binoculars in the western sky after twilight ended.

This is a single unreduced frame cropped to remove a roof and tree with a 135mm lens.

The Menai Suspension Bridge is open once again, but to only one row of cars, and the direction depends on the time of day.

The event will happen between 9:00 p.m. (moonrise) and 11:30 p.m. BST for me in Northwest Wales.

This picture shows the occultation of the Pleiades last April by the crescent Moon (which is more interesting than a gibbous Moon, because the Moon's glare is less).
