Today I finished painting Footsore Miniatures’ King Aella of Northumbria. Although I think he looks a tad too Late Antiquity to really be from the 9th century, and I’ll probably use him as a character of my own devising.

I made myself a hill! My name actually means large hill in Welsh, so consider this a self-portrait. The hill is a rough shape cut from polystyrene foam, covered in filler paste, and with some sand and small cork chips glued to the top. Painting was mostly heavy dry-brushing over a brown base-coat.

Really enjoyed painting this Vampire Lord; I absolutely adore the bats holding up the flowing locks of hair. 🧛
