DINO Mayor John Whitmire will take time to listen to Republican donors but not his own constituents, who he labels “paid activists” when they don’t agree with him. I don’t think a recall effort is the perfect solution but I do think it might remind him who he works for: recallhouston.org

mayor whitmire and metro board chair brock (his appointee) quoted two days apart in the chronicle about the need for getting homeless people on to transit and keeping them off of it. so which is it @cityofhouston.bsky.social?
"What we probably are going to do very soon (is) approach council about changing the ordinance that allows people to sleep on the streets," Whitmire told reporters after Wednesday's council meeting. "We really want the ability to tell people, 'It's not lawful for you to sleep in these conditions... Metro will deliver you, MetroLift, to wherever you need to go." "We understand that when you do not feel safe, you will not ride Metro," Brock said. "So we appointed a new police chief, Chief Tien, to develop a workforce deployment strategy and to ensure that we address our officer shortage. This means that we will have a police presence on our buses and trains... We will take back our buses and our shelters and our transit system from the homeless and get back to our intended mission."

been thinking a lot about (clinging to) these words from @annagalland.bsky.social from her interview with @chrislhayes.bsky.social. yes things are bad and we should prepare for more bad things, but it would be foolish to assume we know where we’re heading.
Excerpt: “And the reason I think I feel steady is both, as you said, that as an organizer, we’ve been through tremendous ups and downs in my own organizing history, in my own lifetime, but also actually where you just went, I feel super humble about what we know about what’s coming. I have some hypotheses. I have some instincts. I have some, I’ve been thinking a lot about what we should learn from the first Trump administration actually, and carry forward and what we need to unlearn. But I feel like it is a kind of act of an overactive ego or narcissism or something to be too pessimistic right now about what exactly is going to come, how this is going to play out. Yes, there will be severe damage. Yes, people that I love and care about are very scared. Yes, I’m scared, but I just think a little humility is in order intellectually and also emotionally, given where we are.”
