🤝 Co-producing research is the way forward to close the research-implementation gap and practice evidence-led conservation

Wouldn't have been possible without my Surrey Wildlife Trust co-authors and colleagues James Herd and Mike Waite, as well as other local collaborators!

🐸 The recovery from freshwater acidification has reached a point where Natterjack Toads could be considered for reintroduction
🗺️ Maps are a super useful way to share palaeo-data with conservation practitioners, to understand spatial representation of each proxy

Key takeaways are:
🌿 The Common was much wetter in the past, but is now overrun with Birch at the expense of it's wetland biodiversity
🔥 It has burnt more frequently and intensely in the last 50 years and this is linked to pressure from climate change

So we need -> more collaboration, clearer language and diagrams (flowcharts!) and to take time to understand conservation contexts in order to produce gold standard applied research. 🌿 🥇

Key findings were that:
- Greater consideration for cost and practicality of recommendations is needed 💰
- Too much jargon and a lack of understanding of standard conservation practices is a big turn off ❌
- Papers co-designed with conservation practitioners generally scored higher 🤝
