there’s definitely malice at play. but these platforms are being ruined first and foremost by ineptitude.

hard to do (correctly) with a decentralized platform. but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating for the user. hopefully it’s a priority soon

yeah, both - the server isn’t what restricts content from other servers. that’s up to the user via feed settings (custom feeds etc)

and your username is not bound to a server. its an alias of your DID (unique id). so you can keep the username exactly as is even when changing servers.

the design and architectural decisions that have been happening have largely focused on avoiding that. can’t say if it’ll actually work yet but no ones sleep walking into mastodon’s mistakes
